What is PAT Testing?

How often should you PAT test?

Different types of electrical appliances in different industries require different PAT test scheduling. Is PAT testing a legal requirement?

PAT testing is not in itself a legal requirement – the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 merely state that electrical equipment that can cause injury needs to be maintained in a safe condition. Nor does it say how often testing should be carried out or who is qualified to do it. Nevertheless, PAT testing carried out by qualified professionals is seen as being the most effective means of meeting your obligations to maintain your electrical appliances in a safe condition.

It should be noted that while there is no legal requirement for PAT testing, your business insurance may require you to carry out regular PAT testing as part of your insurance agreement.
