Fire Safety Statistics (Year Ending 2017)
For almost a decade, the number of fires attended by the Fire & Rescue Services had been falling. But statistics released by gov.uk for the Year Ending September 2017 showed an increase. To give you a greater picture, we’ve selected 10 key statistics from the Office for National Statistics.
1 170,519 fires were attended in comparison to 156,671 the previous year, a 9% increase.
2 There were 30,328 primary dwelling fires, down slightly from 30,966 the previous year.
3 Fire-related fatalities were 346 from 253 the previous year.
4 Numbers of fires in dwellings were as follows:
5 The Year Ending September 2017 saw 4,086 chimney fires compared to 4,115.
6 Accidental fires increased by 2%, while deliberate fires went up 17%.
7 There were 4,794 deliberate other building fires, a 9% increase on the 4,397 from the year previous.
8 There were 222,997 false fire alarms, roughly the same as the previous year, 222,222.
9 False alarms caused by apparatus faults totalled 149,351 compared to 150,224 the previous year.
10 Malicious calls as false alarms went up from 6,981 to 7,108.
