Fire Alarm Maintenance FAQs

How often should fire alarm systems be inspected and maintained?

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 merely states that a fire alarm should be maintained “in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair”, without going into detail about how often that should happen. More detail is provided within BS 5839, which tells us that they need to be inspected and serviced every six months. However, where your system is particularly complex, quarterly inspections are recommended. Your fire alarm should be tested every week.

In which areas does Scutum London provide fire alarm maintenance?

Scutum London operates across the whole of London, as well as in Surrey and across the rest of the South East. We can provide fire alarm maintenance services to businesses in this area.

Does Scutum London offer free consultations?

Our expert team is always available for you to talk to if you need any help or guidance. We also offer free site visits and free, no-obligation quotations.

Why do fire alarms need to be serviced?

Regular servicing of fire alarms is a legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. It also ensures a fire alarm system is always working effectively – without it, the first you might know of a problem is when it doesn’t alert you to the presence of smoke or fire.

What work does an engineer carry out on a visit?

When our engineers carry out servicing on your fire alarms, they will conduct a number of tests and checks, including the general condition of all alarms and systems, the sound levels and making sure that the back-up battery is operational. Once the checks have been completed, we will highlight any areas of concern and provide a quote for any necessary work, issue your certificate of compliance and record the results of all tests.

Does Scutum London offer annual servicing contracts?

Whether you want to set up annual contracts or just a one-off visit, our engineers can provide the expert and experienced help you need, together with an honest appraisal of the state of your existing alarm system.

Is Scutum London accredited for fire alarm maintenance?

We have accreditations from major fire safety bodies and organisations in the UK, including the British Fire Consortium, British Approvals for Fire Equipment (BAFE) and the Fire Industry Association (FIA).
